How to learn the 5 times table

1

Half of 10 times

5 × is half of 10 ×. 8 × 10 = 80, and half of 80 is 40.

2

Read the clock

Each number on a clock face is 5 minutes. The 7 means 35 minutes past, and 7 × 5 = 35.

3

Odd or even

An odd number times 5 ends in 5; an even number times 5 ends in 0.

A tip for parents

Accuracy first, speed later. Five calm minutes a day beats a long, stressful session. Start in Training mode with no timer, and switch to Match only once your child gets most answers right.

Children in England learn the 5 times table in Year 2, and are tested on all tables to 12 × 12 in the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check.
