How to learn the 8 times table

1

Double, double, double

8 is 2 × 2 × 2. For 7 × 8, double 7 three times: 14, 28, 56.

2

Double the 4s

Every 8 fact is a 4 fact doubled. 6 × 4 = 24, so 6 × 8 = 48.

3

Spot the pattern

The last digits go 8, 6, 4, 2, 0, then start again. If an answer is odd, it is wrong.

4

5, 6, 7, 8

The trickiest fact says itself in order: 56 = 7 × 8.

A tip for parents

Accuracy first, speed later. Five calm minutes a day beats a long, stressful session. Start in Training mode with no timer, and switch to Match only once your child gets most answers right.

Children in England learn the 8 times table in Year 3, and are tested on all tables to 12 × 12 in the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check.
